JULY 2010 NEWSLETTER - So In Style clean sweeps at first outing......  read more

PALOMINO THOROUGHBRED MARE COMING TO OZ -  Australia can now hopefully boast Cremello Thoroughbreds of our own in a few short years with WINNING COLOURS FARM importing a striking Palomino mare named Pretzel (USA).  Bred on completely different dilute lines to Glacial Gold she will be a perfect pedigree match for him.  With no inbreeding to dilutes and out of a racewinning mare she is a rare find and will also be bred to elite commercial thoroughbred stallions in future years.  Currently in foal to sensational racebred and coloured thoroughbred Painting Freedom, due April 2nd 2011.

GLACIAL GOLD'S COMING TO OZ -  After waiting 2 years  (which seemed more like an eternity!) WINNING COLOURS FARM are finally importing what many consider the most promising Cremello Thoroughbred stallion in the World.  With quite a few double dilute thoroughbreds on the market when the ASB opened their books to them in 2009, we opted to continue to wait for "the best" to become available.    Glacial Gold will be with WINNING COLOURS FARM for the beginning of the breeding season.   He will be offered for a very limited number of mares in 2010.

2009 COVERINGS A HUGE SUCCESS -  25 Mares in total were covered and limited to Profile In Style (USA) in the 2009 breeding season.  All bar one late mare settled.  He has been popular with racing connections as well as show & performance horse enthusiasts.   A great result which will not be emulated in the 2010 season as his book will be reduced due to Peta and Grant expecting their second ‘human’ baby (all that breeding of mares must have rubbed off !!!).

R.I.P. EBONY RAYS AND 'OUR MASTERPIECE' -   It has taken almost a year for us to come to terms with and announce the devastating loss of a spectacular black and predominantly white (70%) overo thoroughbred colt and his mother. Last season our homozygous true black mare, Ebony Rays,  who was in foal to Profile In Style (USA) suffered a ruptured pre-pubic tendon.   Unfortunately the care and matter in which the events unfolded at a broodmare farm could not save Ebony Rays nor the foal.  The most spectacularly marked colt foal was still born and a devastating loss.  With four white legs all the way up to the body with splashes of black on the forelegs,  and a predominantly white rump/ body/shoulder and  neck/chest/head black with white markings. Ebony was THE sweetest natured mare and our favourite.  There is no consolation though at least we know what Profile In Style is capable of.

WORLD'S FIRST MAXIMUM FRAME-OVERO THOROUGHBRED BORN - Out of a black mare and by Remarquez - who has very minimal markings himself (a sock and blaze only) and his sire is a full brother to Profile's sire.  You can imagine the shock and sheer delight of her owners when they did a routine check of their breeding barn and saw this filly!

PROFILE IN STYLE BROKEN IN  - May 2009  Profile In Style (USA) turned 3yo by birthdate and was sent to Shane Bonham's for breaking in.  These casual pictures taken on his first ride at WINNING COLOURS FARM.  Once again Profile In Style has exceeded our expectations.

COLOURED THOROUGHBRED COLT SELECTED BY MONTY ROBERTS FOR LIVE DEMO -   At the premier of the Equine Affaire in Kentucky USA,  top trainers were brought in to demonstrate their training techniques.  Headlining the presentations was Monty Roberts, the original "Horse Whisperer" and famous trainer for Royalty.  On this Friday night he was to demonstrate how a horse can take its first rider under saddle using "Join-up"® He had 25 minutes.  Monty Roberts chose a coloured (max sabino) thoroughbred colt from a group of about 8 horses that were brought to the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center for consideration.  Horses are selected for intelligence and ground manners.  Monty told the audience that he "was honored" to have an opportunity to work with such a rare and unusual thoroughbred.
